Caraga: Five fisherfolk associations, comprising 107 members from Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands, received assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Caraga Region (BFAR-13) through the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program. These associations were provided with fishing gear and tools worth over PHP1.4 million during May and June to strengthen their fishing operations and increase their income.

According to Philippines News Agency, the recipient associations hail from the towns of Gigaquit and Bacuag in Surigao del Norte, Tubay and Jabonga in Agusan del Norte, and Dinagat in Dinagat Islands. BFAR-13 emphasized that this assistance is part of the SAAD Program's ongoing efforts to enhance fishing productivity, boost the income of fisherfolk families, and promote sustainable fisheries development in coastal communities.

The SAAD program aims to contribute to poverty reduction and improve the living conditions of vulnerable fisherfolk and their communities by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. Ronnie Namoc, a 32-year-old fisherfolk from Dinagat, expressed that the assistance has enabled their group to fish more efficiently and safely. He highlighted that the support replaced their old fishing gear, allowing them to catch more fish and boost their earnings.

Antonio Sulapas, chair of the Nagkahiusang Mangingisda sa Siwata, a recipient group from Bacuag town, expressed gratitude to the government through BFAR for the assistance, stating it is a significant help for their families and essential for sustaining their source of livelihood.
