Ilocos norte: The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) announced on Friday the resumption of its "Operation Baklas" (Dismantle) that clears unsightly and hazardous power and telecommunications lines from utility poles along major streets here, in Batac City and in the central business district of San Nicolas town.

According to Philippines News Agency, INEC general manager Cipriano Martinez said "Operation Baklas" will continue on June 30 to promote public safety and ensure the reliability and integrity of the electric distribution system. The activity includes the removal of abandoned, dangling, and unauthorized telecommunications and cable lines attached to INEC distribution poles.

Martinez stated that letters to all relevant telecommunications companies, cable providers, and stakeholders were sent starting June 8 to facilitate necessary coordination prior to implementation. "INEC appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all concerned as we continue working together to ensure a safer, more organized, and reliable electric distribution system for everyone," he said.

Starting June 30, INEC line workers will be more visible along busy streets to remove tangled and obsolete wires. Phase 1 will run from Starbucks to the Laoag City Police Station on Rizal Street in this city, and Phase 2 will run from in front of Newton to the Petron Gas Station, also on Rizal Street, and to Barangay Salet-Bulangon.

In Batac City, the INEC team will be dispatched along Batac Crossing to Eureka High School, to Ricarte Park, and then along Washington Street to the government center. The operation in San Nicolas will commence from the municipal hall to McDonald's San Nicolas and Batac Road, while the next phase will run from SM City Laoag to Northwestern University and the airport road.

To prevent future disorderly installations, INEC has required telecommunications firms to seek approval before attaching new lines to its poles.
