Iloilo: The Archdiocese of Jaro in Iloilo is set to formally install its 14th archbishop, Midyphill Billones, on April 2. The installation will take place during a Mass at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral.
According to Philippines News Agency, Billones has been serving as the auxiliary bishop of Cebu since 2019. He will be succeeding Archbishop Jose Lazo, who retired at the age of 76. Pope Francis accepted Lazo's resignation on February 2 and appointed Billones as his successor.
In recognition of Archbishop Jose Lazo's contributions, the archdiocese will also celebrate his 50th anniversary of priestly ordination with a Mass at the cathedral, a day prior to Billones' installation. Lazo was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of San Jose de Antique in 1975, became the bishop of Kalibo in 2003, and later transferred to Jaro in 2018.
