New PNPA Director Commits to Reforms Focused on Community and Modernization

Silang: The new director of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), Brig. Gen. Andre Perez Dizon, assumed command of the institution, outlining his leadership agenda with a focus on community engagement, modernization, and accountability.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon took over the post following a turnover ceremony at Camp General Mariano N. Casta±eda, Silang, Cavite. In a phone interview, Dizon, who previously served as the regional director of the Police Regional Office in Bicol, expressed his commitment to enhancing the skills of cadets. "We will concentrate on community engagement and cybercrime awareness, aligning our efforts with the direction established by our Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Nicolas Torre III. Modernization and accountability are key priorities," he stated.

Dizon discussed several initiatives aimed at improving the academy's training programs. "Our modernization efforts include establishing simulation rooms for Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) and firearms training. These facilities are designed to replicate real-life scenarios, helping our cadets respond appropriately to situations they may encounter in the field," he added.

He also emphasized the importance of developing public speaking skills among cadets, noting that many tend to feel shy and uncomfortable when engaging with the community. "Building strong relationships with the community is vital for police officers, and we will actively encourage this practice," he said.

Currently, there are 1,090 cadets enrolled in the academy, along with around 500 personnel, including Police Commissioned Officers, Police Non-Commissioned Officers, and Non-Uniformed Personnel. Dizon urged the youth to consider joining the PNPA, saying, "Our goal is to develop them not only as professional police officers but also as future leaders of our country. They will serve the nation with honor and integrity."

Dizon, a native of Sorsogon, is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy's Sandigan Class of 1994. He replaced Maj. Gen. Christopher Birung, who was appointed as the new commander of the Area Police Command - Southern Luzon.
