Manila: The National Food Authority (NFA) in Albay: assured that all its warehouses, particularly those in the Third District, are safe and in good condition despite the heavy ashfall from Mayon Volcano over the weekend. In a statement on Monday, NFA-Albay said stored supplies of palay (unhusked rice) and milled rice in its warehouses in Libon and Ligao City remain safe.
According to Philippines News Agency, the branch continues strict monitoring to ensure that operations and services expected by farmers and citizens are not disrupted. The agency is also coordinating with local government units and ensuring facilities and personnel are ready in case the eruption prolongs.
The NFA emphasized the resilience of the local community, highlighting the dedication of farmers and branch staff during these challenging times. 'In a time when the resilience of every Albayanon is being tested, compassion and dedication prevail -- from the farmers who continue to till the land to the branch staff who remain committed to their duties. Amidst the ash and fear, hope continues to grow: Whatever the challenge, together we will rise and carry on,' the statement added.
Based on NFA-Bicol Region records, the Albay branch currently holds 102,760 bags of palay (50 kilograms per bag) and 24,945 bags of locally milled rice, ensuring a stable supply despite the ongoing volcanic activity.
