Locally Developed Ride-Hailing App Launched in Iloilo

Iloilo city: A ride-hailing platform developed by a start-up and dedicated to taxis was formally launched in Iloilo City on Monday. The Xicar application was founded in 2025 by Kaitlene Rivilla and Ken Motomitsu, both young generation taxi operators from Iloilo. Currently, around 200 units are already on board, but the founders hope to expand and cover more units.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Xicar app aims to transform the traditional taxi service into a modern, reliable, and customer-focused experience. "Our rule is simple, not just to meet expectations but to exceed them. From convenience to affordable routine, to security, we are committed to delivering all of it the Ilonggo way," Revilla stated during the launch. Passengers using the application will not experience surges in prices and could even earn a rebate of PHP1 for every kilometer that they travel. These rebates can be converted into discounts, free rides, and other services that may be added in the future.

The platform distinguishes itself by not charging a booking fee. Revilla highlighted the app's competitive pricing strategy, emphasizing its affordability compared to other platforms. The app adheres to a taxi-based meter system regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), ensuring fixed rates with no price surges.

A significant feature of the application is the emphasis on passenger safety. Each driver undergoes thorough screening and training to meet the quality standards set by the management. Additionally, the platform provides 24/7 customer support, allowing passengers to chat or call if they wish to file complaints about drivers.
