Visayas: The Visayas grid's red alert status has been extended for Thursday, now spanning from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., instead of the previously scheduled 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This change comes in the wake of forced outages affecting diesel-powered generating units with capacities totaling approximately 70 megawatts (MW).

According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has also issued a yellow alert for the grid, now scheduled from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The gap between capacity and supply has widened, with current capacity estimated at around 2,148 MW, down from 2,283 MW, while demand is projected to peak at approximately 2,376 MW, up from 2,360 MW earlier in the day.

NGCP reports that 15 power plants have experienced forced outages this month alone, with more than 20 others remaining unavailable since as far back as 2021. Additionally, 13 power plants are currently operating at derated capacities, resulting in a total grid loss of around 957.6 MW.

A yellow alert signifies a shortfall in a grid's operating margin relative to contingency requirements, whereas a red alert indicates that supply is insufficient to meet both demand and regulatory requirements.

In Mindanao, the grid remains on yellow alert from 12 noon to 8 p.m. due to higher projected demand, now at approximately 2,652 MW, up from 2,604 MW earlier. Current capacity is estimated to be around 2,752 MW, a decrease from 2,785 MW previously.

NGCP notes that 17 power plants are now on forced outage, an increase from 16 earlier. This is in addition to the 11 plants that have been unavailable since last year, with eight others operating at derated capacities. The total loss to the grid in Mindanao is approximately 719.8 MW.
