NGCP Poised for Participation in ASEAN Power Grid Initiative

Manila: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is ready for the planned ASEAN Power Grid and is awaiting specifics from authorities to make its system adaptable to the targeted cross-border electricity trade.

According to Philippines News Agency, NGCP spokesperson lawyer Cynthia Alabanza, during a briefing Wednesday, said the plan will need bulk transmission facilities, and the NGCP requires specific details regarding these requirements. Alabanza emphasized NGCP's readiness to play a role in this regional initiative, highlighting the need for clear directives and program details to facilitate active participation.

The Philippines, as this year's ASEAN chair, is promoting the initiative to establish a power grid accessible to its 11 member states, addressing energy needs exacerbated by external crises such as the Middle East situation. The initiative seeks to bolster energy security and resilience across the region amidst external risks.

When questioned about NGCP's potential investment in the proposed ASEAN Power Grid, Alabanza refrained from providing specific figures, citing the absence of necessary details from authorities. She reiterated NGCP's willingness to connect and comply with the initiative, underscoring the importance of detailed information to assess readiness accurately.
