Manila: The National Housing Authority (NHA) has distributed PHP64 million in financial assistance to about 2,134 families affected by the recent fire in Parola, Tondo, Manila, through its Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP). According to Philippines News Agency, the NHA's aid effort is a significant step in helping the victims recover from the devastating fire. Each affected family received PHP30,000, with the total disbursed amounting to PHP64,020,000. EHAP, a program under the NHA, aims to provide financial aid to families affected by fire and other natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, and other similar incidents, to help them recover and start anew.
The NHA stated that the PHP30,000 financial assistance is intended to support the victims in rebuilding their homes and recovering from the incident. Meanwhile, Joeben Tai highlighted the agency's collaboration with the city government of Manila, led by Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso, which was instrumental in the seamless distribution of aid to the affected families.
The beneficiaries included families from barangays 275, Zone 25, Parola Compound, specifically those from Gates 46, 52, 54, 56, and 58. More than 2,000 families were displaced by the fire, which escalated to Task Force Bravo on Saturday and was declared extinguished at 1:16 a.m. on Sunday.
Data from the Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication indicated that a total of 2,134 families, or 7,123 individuals, were affected by the fire incident. Of these, 2,500 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers, while 4,623 are temporarily taking shelter with families or friends.
