Manila: The National Housing Authority (NHA) has announced a one-month automatic moratorium on housing loan amortizations and lease payments for August, aiming to provide temporary financial relief to families impacted by the enhanced southwest monsoon or 'habagat.'
According to Philippines News Agency, the NHA's decision encompasses residential account holders in projects affected by the 'habagat,' intensified by Tropical Depression Luis and Tropical Storm Maymay. This moratorium applies to account holders in the National Capital Region (NCR) and several provinces, including Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro.
NHA Memorandum Circular No. 2026-048 specifies that eligible beneficiaries are not required to apply for the moratorium. During August, no delinquency or additional interest charges will be imposed, and penalties, interest, and surcharges will be suspended. This initiative comes in response to the enhanced southwest monsoon, which has led to extensive rainfall across the NCR and Luzon provinces following Tropical Depression "Luis" and Tropical Storm "Maymay."
The NHA stated that amortization and lease obligation payments will resume on September 1, 2026, with the repayment period for affected residential accounts extended by one month. Fees and charges accrued before August 1 will be reinstated starting September 1.
The NHA remains committed to providing timely assistance to beneficiaries, helping families manage housing obligations during challenging times and ensuring access to affordable, sustainable housing. NHA General Manager Joeben Tai emphasized the agency's dedication to following President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' R. Marcos, Jr.'s directive to support citizens impacted by the recent southwest monsoon.
