Laoag: Night flights at Laoag International Airport will remain suspended until January 7 due to ongoing issues with the runway lighting system, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). The suspension was confirmed on Monday by CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio, who communicated this update to the Philippine News Agency.

According to Philippines News Agency, the notice to airmen (NOTAM) has been extended to 10 p.m. on January 7. The decision restricts landing and take-off operations to periods with "day visual meteorological conditions" since the edge light at Runway 01/19 is currently unusable. CAAP had earlier indicated that the runway lights became temporarily inoperative due to a short circuit, prompting the NOTAM issuance.

The CAAP has taken immediate action by installing temporary wiring to partially restore the lighting system. Despite these efforts, at least two flights between Manila and Laoag were canceled on Saturday, illustrating the disruption caused by the lighting failure.

On Sunday, CAAP reassured travelers and the public that technical works are ongoing to resolve the issue and emphasized that ensuring safety remains its top priority.
