Manila: There are no expected changes in the Cabinet of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., except for the impending abolition of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA), Malaca±ang said on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced that OSAPIEA's functions will end following the appointment of its former chief, Secretary Frederick Go, as head of the Department of Finance (DOF).
"Sa kasalukuyan, wala pa pong ganoon. Wala pa pong muling balasahan (At present, there is nothing like that yet. There is no new reshuffling for now)," Castro stated when questioned about the possibility of another Cabinet revamp, underscoring that the dissolution of OSAPIEA is the only confirmed movement.
Castro confirmed that Go had already verified the office's forthcoming dissolution.
On December 15, 2023, Marcos issued Executive Order 49, which established the OSAPIEA under the Office of the President to ensure the effective integration, coordination, and implementation of various government investment and economic policies and programs.
When asked about the timeline for OSAPIEA's dissolution, Castro mentioned that there is no formal announcement yet, and details will be provided once the official document is released.
Castro assured the public that this move would not affect ongoing trade negotiations with other countries, including the United States.
Citing Go, Castro noted that the Department of Trade and Industry remains responsible for the technical and substantive work on trade agreements.
"So, wala naman pong maaapektuhan. And considering na galing po si Secretary Go sa OSAPIEA at siya naman din po ang magiging secretary ng Department of Finance. So magkakatulungan po iyan (So nothing will be affected. And considering that Secretary Go came from OSAPIEA and will also be the secretary of the Department of Finance, they will be able to work together)," Castro explained.
