No Extension in COC Filing for Aug 29 Cavite Special Polls – Comelec

Dasmari±as city: The deadline for filing the Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for aspirants for the special polls in the fourth legislative district of Cavite province is on July 17, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia said Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Garcia emphasized in a phone interview that the final day for filing the COCs is on Friday and confirmed that "definitely, there will be no extension." The COC filing period has been established by the poll body's Resolution 11241, running from July 15 to 17. So far, four candidates have submitted their COCs to vie for the seat left vacant by the expulsion of Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco Barzaga.

On the first day of the filing period, former Vice Mayor Raul Rex Del Rosario Mangubat and Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag submitted their COCs. Two additional aspirants, Leysander Ordenes and Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr., entered the race on Thursday, with Frani Jr.'s COC being filed by an authorized representative.

The rules allow aspirants to file their COCs either in person or through an authorized representative at the AVR, Socio-Economic Building (New City Hall), in Dasmari±as City. Candidates must submit five copies of the sworn COC, along with the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA), if applicable. The special election is scheduled for Aug. 29.
