Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is making final preparations for his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) by actively consulting with the heads of various government agencies, Malaca±ang announced on Thursday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the President has been in regular communication with agency leaders to review their accomplishments and discuss key programs and major initiatives. Marcos is currently in the process of finalizing the draft of his SONA speech, which is scheduled to be delivered at the Batasan Pambansa Complex in Quezon City on July 27.
Castro emphasized the ongoing interactions between the President and agency heads, noting that these discussions are crucial for keeping the President informed about current developments. She also mentioned that preparations for the annual address are already underway. However, Castro declined to share operational details regarding security arrangements, amid planned protests, stating that such matters are not publicly disclosed but assured that the government is always prepared.
When questioned about whether Vice President Sara Duterte would be invited to the SONA, Castro clarified that the invitation would be extended by the House of Representatives, not by the President. Furthermore, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto previously indicated that Marcos would emphasize the increase in local government units' share from national tax collections during his upcoming address.
