No Filipinos among Bangladesh Earthquake Fatalities: DFA

Manila: No Filipino was among the reported fatalities in the powerful magnitude 5.7 earthquake that killed three in Bangladesh, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday. The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka is closely monitoring the impacts of the tremor that occurred on November 21, with the epicenter traced 7 kilometers from Ghorashal, Narsingdi District, Dhaka Division.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DFA confirmed that, as of this time, the Embassy has not received any reports of Filipinos harmed or affected by the earthquake. Based on DFA data, there are at least 785 Filipinos in Bangladesh, with around 200 to 300 residing in Dhaka.

Local reports, citing law enforcement authorities, indicated that three people were killed when the railing of a six-storey building collapsed during the earthquake. In response to the incident, the Embassy has advised Filipinos in Bangladesh to remain calm and vigilant, and to monitor updates from credible and verifiable sources of information.
