No Order for Undersecretaries to File Courtesy Resignations: Palace

Manila: There is no directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for government undersecretaries to submit their courtesy resignations amid a performance review, Malaca±ang said on Friday. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that no memorandum order has been issued instructing undersecretaries to resign from their respective posts.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro clarified in a Palace press briefing, "Wala pa pong natatanggap na memo na kailangang mag-submit ng courtesy resignation ang mga Usec., pero tuluy-tuloy pa rin po ang pagi-evaluate sa kanilang performance," which translates to, "We have not yet received a memo requiring the Undersecretaries to submit a courtesy resignation, but their performance is still being evaluated."

On May 22, President Marcos instructed Cabinet secretaries, heads of agencies with Cabinet rank, other heads of agencies, and presidential advisers and assistants to resign from their respective posts following the 2025 midterm elections. This move was aimed at recalibrating his administration's priorities and services. However, Marcos clarified on Tuesday that this directive does not imply a Cabinet revamp, emphasizing that it is "not a one-shot, one-time, big-time thing."

The President noted that government undersecretaries are currently undergoing a performance review, which will be more rigorous and will cover not just government officials. Additionally, he announced plans to conduct a "quarterly" performance review in government as part of efforts to recalibrate the administration's operations and enhance service delivery.
