Northern Samar Development Council Approves Renewable Energy Roadmap

Catarman:Northern Samar The Provincial Development Council (PDC) of Northern Samar has given the green light to a renewable energy roadmap intended to guide the province's energy development plans through 2040.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Northern Samar Renewable Energy Roadmap 2026-2040 was approved via Resolution No. 7, Series of 2026, during the PDC's Third Quarter Joint Council Meeting held on September 22 at the provincial capitol in Catarman town. The resolution has been forwarded to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for further approval and adoption.

The roadmap is designed to act as a strategic guide for various aspects of energy management in the province, including renewable energy development, energy security, efficiency and conservation, resilience, investment facilitation, and related implementation and monitoring activities.

The Provincial Government of Northern Samar, through its Provincial Planning and Development Office and the Provincial Energy Development Council, spearheaded the development of the roadmap. This effort was supported by technical assistance from the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities and incorporated inputs from a wide array of stakeholders, including national government agencies, municipal governments, the Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, academic and professional organizations, civil society groups, and the private sector.

The provincial government stated that the roadmap emphasizes renewable energy generation and access, distributed and hybrid energy systems, grid and energy storage development, productive use of energy, clean transportation, public facilities, and climate action. It also highlights policies, investments, and capacity-building measures.

Additionally, the roadmap offers a framework for incorporating renewable energy priorities into various provincial and local development strategies, investment programs, annual and supplemental budgets, as well as climate and disaster-risk plans, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sectoral planning.
