Manila: National University (NU) emerged triumphant in the Shakey's Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-Season Championship after defeating De La Salle University in a compelling showdown. The Lady Bulldogs clinched the title with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 victory in Game 2 of their best-of-three series at Rizal Memorial Coliseum. According to Philippines News Agency, NU had already secured an advantage by winning Game 1 on Friday with scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 27-25. Alyssa Solomon, who was named Best Opposite Spiker, played a crucial role in NU's victory by scoring all her 19 points through attacks. This win marks NU's third consecutive title, adding to their previous triumph in the SSL National Invitationals last July. Coach Sherwin Meneses expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Shakey's Super League, emphasizing its importance for NU's preparation for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). "Of course, the experience to play in Shakey's is very important to N U in preparation for the UAAP. So, we're thankful for the opportunity like this," Meneses stated. Earlier this year, Meneses also achieved a Grand Slam in the professional ranks with Creamline. Most Valuable Player Bella Belen contributed significantly to the victory, scoring 15 points with 12 attacks, two blocks, and an ace. Vange Alinsug added 10 points, including the decisive game-winning spike. Belen, who also received the first Best Outside Spiker award, commented on the team's hard work and determination, stating, "We really worked hard for our win because we knew La Salle would fight, so I told my teammates that we have to fight, too." On the other side, Angel Canino led La Salle with nine points, while Alleiah Malaluan and Katrina Del Castillo contributed eight and seven points, respectively. In another match, Far Eastern University secured the bronze medal by overcoming the University of Santo Tomas with scores of 20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12. Jaz Ellarina led the Lady Tamaraws with 13 points , while Gerzel Petallo and Faida Bakanke contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Individual awards were distributed to outstanding players, including Angge Poyos (second Best Outside Spiker), La Salle's Amie Provido (First Best Middle Blocker), Ellarina (Second Best Middle Blocker), and NU's Shaira Jardio (Best Libero) and Lams Lamina (Best Setter).
