San juan: The National University Nazareth School (NUNS) asserted its dominance over De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) with a decisive 95-45 victory in the UAAP Season 88 girls basketball tournament held at the Filoil EcoOil Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, Zaydhen Rosano, a sophomore guard hailing from Cebu, delivered a remarkable performance with 18 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, and nine steals. This impressive display helped NUNS secure its spot at the top alongside the University of Santo Tomas (UST), both teams holding a 2-0 record.
Adding to the team's success, Gilas Youth guard Aubrey Lapasaran contributed 17 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Teammates Zane Singson and Ruiza Olmos also made significant contributions with 11 points each.
The upcoming encounter between NUNS and UST at the Blue Eagle Gym on February 1 is highly anticipated, as it serves as a rematch of last season's finals. The Lady Bullpups' effective shooting, converting 36 out of 80 field attempts, and their defensive prowess, forcing 46 turnovers and accumulating 32 steals, were pivotal in their victory. These efforts resulted in converting DLSZ's errors into 48 points.
On the opposing side, Ima Navarro led DLSZ with seven points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Ching Gales also added seven points, along with eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist. DLSZ, now sharing an 0-2 record with Ateneo de Manila University, will face them at the Blue Eagle Gym on January 25.
