Manila: Newly crowned Palarong Pambansa champion National University Nazareth School (NUNS) defeated the University of Santo Tomas, 25-14, 25-23, on Tuesday to sweep Pool D in the 2025 Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 1 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym. Denesse Daylisan led the charge with nine points off eight kills and one block, while Harlyn Seneche and UAAP MVP Samantha Cantada contributed seven points each for top-seeded NUNS. Earlier in the day, NUNS also overcame the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-18, 25-10.
According to Philippines News Agency, NUNS is set to face Pool A No. 2 seed and defending champion Adamson University in the quarterfinal round on Thursday. Adamson University secured their spot by defeating Naga College Foundation, 25-16, 25-22, concluding with a 3-1 record.
In other matches, Bacolod Tay Tung triumphed over Holy Rosary College, 25-17, 25-22, and Chiang Kai Shek College, 25-16, 25-11, to sweep Pool B. This victory sets them up for a quarterfinal matchup against Pool D No. 2 seed Far Eastern University-Diliman.
In Pool B, De La Salle-Lipa defeated Holy Rosary College, 25-19, 25-18, securing a quarterfinal berth against Arellano University, who themselves swept Pool C by overcoming De La Salle-Zobel A, 25-15, 25-18.
Emilio Aguinaldo College maintained perfection in Pool A with a 22-25, 25-17, 25-17 win over Naga College Foundation, setting up a quarterfinal clash with Pool C second seed King's Montessori School.
In Division 2, Domuschola International School bested St. Paul College-Pasig, 25-18, 27-25, to achieve a 3-1 record and the second seeding in the crossover quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Immaculate Conception Academy dominated Pool F by defeating St. Theresa College-QC, 25-9, 25-13. Everest International Academy secured the No. 2 seed in Pool E by overcoming Miriam College, 25-20, 25-23.
