Manila: The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) clarified that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla is in good health and is fully capable of fulfilling his responsibilities.
According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano stated that recent comments by Remulla during a television news forum were intended to discuss his past health challenges. Remulla disclosed that he was diagnosed with leukemia following quintuple bypass heart surgery in 2023 but has since made a full recovery.
Clavano emphasized, "To clarify and contextualize: The Ombudsman is in good health and continues to work with vigor and dedication. The Ombudsman has been cancer-free for one and a half years. He also exercises every morning before going to the office to maintain a healthy lifestyle."
The OMB spokesperson noted that Remulla's remarks about his health were historical and pertained to his condition before his appointment as Ombudsman. Clavano assured the public of Remulla's commitment to addressing the flood control issue and other responsibilities.
Remulla shared that he has undergone two cycles of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, with his son being the donor, which led to his complete recovery.
