Dumaguete: Police in Negros Oriental will be fully deployed for the upcoming long weekend to secure the observance of All Saints' and All Souls' Days (Undas), an official said Monday. Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), stated that around 1,200 police personnel from different police stations will be on duty for Oplan Ligtas Undas. The deployment will cover cemeteries, churches, passenger terminals, and other places of convergence.
According to Philippines News Agency, police personnel are taking a short break following the recently concluded Buglasan Festival events before their weekend shifts. The NOrPPO, headed by OIC provincial director Col. Criscente Tiguelo, declared the 11-day Buglasan Festival, which concluded on Sunday evening, as peaceful and orderly.
'The success of Buglasan Festival 2025 reflects not only the vibrancy of our culture but also the discipline and cooperation of our province,' Tiguelo said in a statement. Polinar added that no major crimes or incidents were reported during the period. The Task Group Safety and Security for Buglasan was officially deactivated on Monday, with 800 personnel from the police, Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Army, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices returning to their home base.
Meanwhile, Polinar mentioned that the deployment of police personnel for the upcoming fiesta activities of the capital, including the city's charter day on Nov. 24 and the patron St. Catherine of Alexandria's feast day on Nov. 25, will be determined after the Undas observance.
