Manila: The Office of the Ombudsman announced that a personal computer originally issued to former Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral has been surrendered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and will remain sealed until digital forensic examinations are conducted. Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano stated that the central processing unit and files of Usec. Cabral are now under the custody of the Office of the Ombudsman and will remain sealed until a digital forensic test is performed.

According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Ombudsman Clavano noted that obtaining and processing Cabral's office-issued cellular phone will be the responsibility of the Philippine National Police. Clavano emphasized the Office's interest in the cellphone, which could provide crucial information as authorities continue to investigate Cabral's death.

Cabral was discovered unconscious in a ravine along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet shortly after midnight on Friday. She was pronounced dead shortly after her body was retrieved. Prior to her death, she was considered a key figure with knowledge of processes involving anomalous flood control projects.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice reported that contractor Sally Santos has surrendered PHP19 million in 'ill-gotten wealth.' The amount was obtained through lending her contractor license for use in projects in exchange for a 3 percent 'royalty' fee. Santos surrendered PHP15 million to the DOJ on Monday, in addition to PHP4 million surrendered earlier in the month. DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez stated that the final amount to be surrendered will be equivalent to the royalty fees Santos received from the Hiram Lisensya scheme.
