Manila: More than 29,677 out of 42,036 barangays in the Philippines have been declared free of drugs since the onset of the Marcos administration, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). An additional 5,815 barangays are currently undergoing the clearing process as part of the government's sustained anti-narcotics campaign.
According to Philippines News Agency, the data, which reflects the state of the nation as of September, categorizes barangays as drug-affected when there is evidence of drug users, pushers, manufacturers, marijuana cultivators, or other drug-related activities. The classification of drug-affectation is divided into three levels: slightly affected, moderately affected, and seriously affected.
Barangays with reports of illegal drug users and personalities are labeled as slightly affected. Those with evidence of drug users, pushers, and drug personalities are moderately affected. Serious affectation is attributed to barangays where drug laboratories, dens, resorts, or marijuana plantations are present.
The PDEA highlighted that the Marcos administration's anti-drug initiative has confiscated PHP88.54 billion worth of narcotics as of September 2025. This includes 11,837.59 kilograms of shabu, 103.51 kilograms of cocaine, 145,023 ecstasy tablets, and 7,796.59 kilograms of marijuana seized from July 2022 to September this year.
The agency also reported conducting 127,417 operations nationwide, resulting in the arrest of 170,535 drug suspects, including 10,631 high-value targets. Furthermore, 1,621 drug dens and five clandestine shabu laboratories have been dismantled during this period.
