OWWA Assures Support to Family of OFW Who Died on Bus to Dumaguete

Dumaguete: The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on Wednesday extended deep condolences to the family of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died on her way home to her residence in Dumaguete City on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the OWWA is now in close contact with the family of the victim, identified as Wilma Auza, an OFW from Kuwait, who succumbed to a cardiac arrest inside a passenger bus. The agency has assured the family of its full support and financial assistance under existing programs designed for the welfare of families left behind by OFWs.

OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan stated that Auza had just completed her employment contract abroad and was returning to her hometown when the unfortunate incident occurred. Initial reports indicate that Auza had multiple stopovers before reaching Dumaguete, which has raised questions regarding her travel route.

Caunan clarified, "We are finding out po kasi di naman po siya repatriated worker. Siya po ay umuwi because of end of contract. We are on the ground. We are going to release an update soon." It was reported that fellow passengers observed Auza vomiting during the journey and appearing unwell. She later settled and fell asleep, but upon reaching the bus terminal, it was discovered that she was no longer breathing.

Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Auza's body to a rural health unit for medical examination. Investigations into the circumstances leading to her death are currently ongoing.

The OWWA has reiterated its commitment to supporting every OFW and their families, stating, "Sa ganitong panahon ng pagluluksa, kami ay kaisa ng pamilya ni Ginang Wilma sa pag-alala sa kanyang buhay at mga naiambag na sakripisyo para sa kanyang mga mahal sa buhay."

The agency further emphasized that Mrs. Wilma was not only an OFW but also a mother, wife, and friend who steadfastly sacrificed for her family's future. Her dedication and love serve as a testament to the resilience and heroism of Filipino workers abroad.
