P105-Million Allocated for Cash-for-Work Program to Aid Ilocos Region Workers

Ilocos region: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 1 has earmarked PHP105 million to support fisherfolk, farmers, and transport sector workers impacted by the recent oil price hike. This information was disclosed by an official on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE-1's information officer Jenny Mapile stated that the budget is set to assist 11,100 farmer beneficiaries, 773 fisherfolk, and 1,435 transport sector workers. This support will be channeled through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) cash-for-work initiative, which provides displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers with temporary community work ranging from 10 to 30 days, remunerated at the highest prevailing regional minimum wage.

As of June 3, the program has already benefited 554 farmers, 148 fisherfolk, and two transport sector workers. Mapile advised affected individuals to visit the nearest DOLE office or their local government unit's Public Employment Services Office to avail of the program's benefits.
