P125-M Electrification Project to Illuminate Sitios and Off-Grid Areas in Antique

Antique: The Antique Electric Cooperative (Anteco) is set to embark on two significant electrification projects in the province, with a combined investment of PHP125 million this year. Anteco's general manager, engineer Neal Peter Ve±egas, announced that the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) and the Barangay Enhancement Program (BEP) will be carried out with funding from the National Electrification Administration.

According to Philippines News Agency, the SEP is allocated PHP100 million under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). This program aims to bring electricity to 23 sitios across the province, enhancing access to energy for residents in these remote areas. Meanwhile, the BEP is backed by PHP25 million to electrify off-grid areas in the towns of San Remigio and Laua-an.

In the past, these off-grid areas relied on mini-hydro systems for their energy needs. However, with an increasing number of households applying for Anteco's services, the cooperative's distribution line is now extending into these regions. Ve±egas highlighted that areas previously considered off-grid are gradually becoming integrated into the grid due to their proximity to Anteco's distribution infrastructure.
