PBBM Orders Adoption of Updated List of Censuses, Surveys

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has mandated the adoption of an updated list of designated statistical activities, including censuses and surveys, to be conducted by government agencies. This directive aims to ensure the availability of reliable data reflecting the current state of the Philippine economy and socioeconomic growth.

According to Philippines News Agency, Executive Order (EO) 87, signed on May 21, emphasizes the importance of these statistical activities for economic planning, program development, and policy-making by both government and private sectors. The order underlines the necessity of a data-driven approach to effectively address the nation's evolving needs and challenges.

The directive requires all concerned agencies to submit the results of these activities to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) within designated timeframes approved by the PSA Board. The updated list is intended to support the generation of essential data for administrators, planners, and policy-makers across sectors.

EO 87 stipulates that all designated statistical activities must adhere to official statistical standards approved by the PSA Board. Any improvements or revisions to these standards will require PSA Board approval before implementation by relevant agencies.

Government departments, agencies, bureaus, offices, and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, are instructed to support the implementation of EO 87. Local government units and the private sector are also encouraged to participate.

Funding for the implementation of this order will come from the current appropriations of the PSA and other implementing agencies. Future funding needs will be included in the budget proposals of these bodies. EO 87 takes effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
