Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has undertaken PHP187.7 million worth of projects in Capiz aimed at mitigating flooding and protecting communities from recurring threats. A report from the DPWH on Wednesday confirmed the completion of a PHP95.2 million flood control structure stretching 751.53 meters along the Balisong River in Barangay San Ramon, Pilar.

According to Philippines News Agency, this project aims to reduce flooding and maintain water levels, ensuring that the local area remains protected against the harsh water conditions of the ocean and river opening, as stated by DPWH regional director Sanny Boy Oropel. Meanwhile, the construction of the PHP92.5 million 223.3-lineal meter flood mitigation structure along the Panay River in Barangay Cogon, Panay, is ongoing.

The DPWH said these river control projects are crucial for sustaining long-term flood protection and development in the province.
