SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA: The proposed PHP2.3 billion satellite radar station of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in the Municipality of Anini-y is set to enhance security and aid the province during calamities through its air assets. Board Member Pio Jessielito Sumande, Sr., chairperson of the Peace and Order and Public Security (POPS) Committee at the provincial board, highlighted the significance of the project and mentioned an upcoming ocular inspection of the proposed site in Mt. Liwliw, Anini-y, expected this month. According to Philippines News Agency, the radar station is positioned to play a crucial role in provincial and national security and disaster response efforts. Sumande noted that the station would be situated where a similar American facility once stood as part of the Republic of the Philippines-United States of America Military Bases Treaty in the 1980s. A Japanese construction firm is set to handle the development of the radar station. Sumande also emphasized the potential for tourism growth , stating that the radar station could become a tourist attraction due to the panoramic views on the way to Mt. Liwliw. Additionally, the concreting of the access road from Barangay Diclum, Anini-y, to Mt. Liwliw is scheduled to start early next year, following a request from the provincial government. This infrastructure project will be funded by the Cooperative-National Confederation of Cooperatives (Coop-NATCCO) party list.
