P273-M Worth of Relief Goods Prepared in Bicol for ‘Crising’

Bicol: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has ensured that over 254,000 family food packs are on standby across various warehouses in the region. This preparation is in response to the anticipated impact of Tropical Depression Crising.

According to Philippines News Agency, Claudio Villareal, the chief of DSWD-5's Disaster Response Management Division, stated that the total value of available relief resources has reached PHP273 million, including food items ready for immediate distribution. "Following the blue alert status issued by the Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, we have activated our quick response team. Under the direction of our Regional Director, Norman Laurio, the team is tasked with closely monitoring their respective areas of responsibility," he explained.

Tropical Depression Crising is expected to bring significant rainfall to several provinces in the Bicol Region, including Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Villareal mentioned that non-food items are also on standby, comprising at least 1,274 sleeping kits, 9,252 family kits, 5,188 hygiene kits, and 4,994 kitchen kits. DSWD-5 has also allocated a standby fund of PHP789,114 for the additional purchase of food and non-food items.

In a related advisory, the Department of Health in Bicol has reminded the public to prepare "Go" bags for emergencies. A "Go" bag should contain essential items such as sealed important documents, a flashlight, candle, match, whistle, portable radio, extra batteries, first aid kits, money, sanitary supplies, ready-to-eat food, and bottled water sufficient for three days.
