P4.2 Million Refunded to Electric Consumers in Iloilo City

Iloilo City: The distribution utility in Iloilo City has successfully reimbursed approximately PHP4.2 million in deposit refunds to electric consumers who have consistently paid their dues on time and have not experienced any electrical disconnections.

According to Philippines News Agency, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) initiated the process of refunding bill deposits to its consumers in June 2023. The most recent reimbursement, totaling PHP242,189, was distributed between March 7 and 29 to consumers who had applied for connection 36 months prior.

MORE Power stated on Tuesday that this marks the 21st batch of consumers receiving their refunds, with amounts ranging from PHP2,500 to PHP8,000, depending on the type of connection. Elvira, a consumer, emphasized the importance of prompt payment to avoid disconnection, stating, "Pag-abot sang bill dapat bayaran gid dayon para wala na delay (Once the bill arrives, we should pay it immediately to avoid delay)."

Article 7 of the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers mandates the refund of bill deposits to those who have diligently paid their electric bills over the last 36 months. Additionally, consumers can claim a refund upon the termination of their contract. Distribution utilities require a bill deposit from new or additional services equivalent to one month of billing as a payment guarantee.
