Manila: Authorities confiscated PHP40.06 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 110 suspects in nationwide operations conducted June 18 to 25, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said in a news release over the weekend.
According to Philippines News Agency, PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez stated that 83 operations were carried out across the country during the period. "These accomplishments reflect the commitment of PDEA, the Philippine National Police, and other law enforcement agencies in protecting our communities from the threat of illegal drugs. Every successful operation in the cities, ports or remote areas strengthens public safety," Nerez said in a statement.
Nerez emphasized the agency's intention to continue intensifying intelligence-driven operations, supporting the Bagong Pilipinas campaign for a safer and drug-free Philippines. Of those arrested, 76 were identified as drug pushers while 19 were alleged possessors.
All suspects will face charges under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Seized during the operations were 3,574.91 grams of shabu, 72,240 pieces of marijuana plants, 9,899.13 grams of dried marijuana leaves, 2,800 pieces of marijuana seedlings, and 5.18 grams of marijuana kush.
The confiscated items are now in government custody for forensic examination and will be presented as evidence in court proceedings, PDEA said.
