Manila: A PHP5-billion increase in the budget for the Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI) lending arm, Small Business Corporation (SBCorp), is being considered for 2027 to enhance support for local businesses.

According to Philippines News Agency, DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque announced this potential budget hike during the National Exporters' Fair at SM Megamall. Roque emphasized that the additional funds will bolster loan support, reflecting the Marcos administration's dedication to aiding entrepreneurs. Last year, the total budget for SBCorp was PHP12.9 billion, and this year they are aiming for an additional PHP5 billion.

Information from the SBCorp website indicates that, as of June 2026, the corporation received 94,532 loan applications and disbursed approximately PHP32.45 billion in loans.

During the same event, Roque introduced the Youth Enterprise Fund with an initial budget of PHP1 billion. This program targets business owners aged 18 to 30, offering loans between PHP30,000 to PHP500,000 with up to a three-year term and a one-year grace period. The facility will be accessible from July 27 via the SBCorp website and mobile app, SBCorp Money.

Roque highlighted that DTI has 18 regional offices throughout the country to assist small businesses with loan programs and business development support. Encouraging young entrepreneurs, she stated that every successful business begins with a single idea and the courage to try, noting the importance of perseverance despite initial challenges.
