Benguet: A trainer aircraft of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) crashed in Benguet province on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of its two pilots.

According to Philippines News Agency, PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco stated that the Siai-Marchetti SF-260 trainer aircraft went down at around 10:30 a.m. during a "navigation training flight." In a subsequent message, Basco confirmed that both pilots were killed in the crash.

The SF-260 is an Italian-made light aircraft commonly used for aerobatics and military training. Basco explained that the aircraft was part of a group of 10 planes that had taken off from Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas, and were en route to Baguio City.

Following the crash, the PAF quickly coordinated with local government units and the nearest air base to manage the situation. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

"The PAF will release further updates once verified information becomes available," Basco added.
