Tokyo: The Philippine Airlines (PAL) is actively seeking alternative flights for passengers affected by an emergency landing of its Los Angeles-bound flight at Haneda Airport, Japan. The incident occurred due to smoke detected inside the cabin.
According to Philippines News Agency, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced during a press conference that PAL is arranging for the continuation of the passengers' journey to Los Angeles after the aircraft was unable to proceed with its flight. Flight PR102, which took off from Manila on April 9, was diverted to Haneda Airport following reports of smoke from one of its air conditioning units.
Dizon expressed gratitude to the Japanese Embassy and PAL for their efforts in assisting the passengers. He emphasized PAL's responsibility to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Additionally, Dizon has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Civil Aeronautics Board to investigate the incident and review the actions taken.
In a statement to the Philippine News Agency, PAL confirmed that all 359 passengers and 18 crew members aboard flight PR102 safely disembarked. The airline's ground operations team at Tokyo Haneda Airport is providing comprehensive support, including meals, baggage assistance, and the arrangement of alternative flights for passengers.
The flight made a safe landing at Haneda at 3:30 a.m. local time, and passengers were allowed to disembark at 10 a.m. PAL reiterated its commitment to safety and is collaborating with relevant airport and aviation authorities to address the situation.
