Vancouver: Malacañang on Friday (Canada time) stated that Senator Rodante Marcoleta will have the opportunity to defend himself following the filing of plunder charges against him by the Office of the Ombudsman. Speaking to reporters at Sutton Place Hotel, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized the administration's commitment to accountability in cases of alleged corruption, irrespective of political affiliations. According to Philippines News Agency, Castro assured that Marcoleta would receive due process and the chance to address the allegations in the appropriate legal setting. The government insists on letting the legal process proceed without interference. Castro also dismissed notions of public pressure or political mobilization, such as potential protests by supporters, influencing the case. She affirmed that government agencies and courts would fulfill their duties independently, despite any external pressures. Castro reiterated the importance of respecting the judiciary and allowing the Sand iganbayan to handle the case unimpeded. She highlighted the executive branch's respect for the separation of powers, ensuring no interference in court proceedings. The Ombudsman filed a plunder case against Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan, alleging undeclared PHP75 million in campaign contributions received in January 2025.
