Manila: Malaca±ang on Friday emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the criminal complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte. The complaints, which include charges of plunder, graft, bribery, and malversation, are linked to the alleged misuse of PHP612.5 million in confidential funds.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, during a press briefing, stated that if the complainants have credible evidence to support their case against the Vice President, it should be properly examined. "Kung ano po ang isinasaad sa kanilang complaint, kung nakapag-attach sila ng kanilang mga ebidensiya, mas maganda pong maimbestigahan ito nang mabuti," Castro noted, emphasizing the importance of a detailed investigation.

Castro also responded to reports regarding Duterte's nighttime visits to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Camp Bagong Diwa, suggesting that the Department of the Interior and Local Government could provide further clarification. Additionally, when questioned about allegations that BJMP detainee Ramil Madriaga was instructed not to speak against the Dutertes due to their alleged connections with drug lords and Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), Castro recommended seeking comments directly from the Vice President.

Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, Human Rights Committee Chair, Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido 'Benny' Abante, called for an investigation into sworn allegations that Duterte's 2021-2022 campaign efforts were financed by POGOs and drug dealers. These allegations were detailed in a sworn affidavit by Ramil Lagunoy Madriaga, who is described as a trusted aide of Duterte.

Abante emphasized that the statements were significant enough to warrant a comprehensive review, noting that Madriaga detailed multiple cash transactions, including supposed handoffs at various locations. He stressed the need for any inquiry to rely on documents, verified timelines, and sworn testimonies to allow the public to thoroughly evaluate both the accusations and denials.

"Kung hindi naman totoo, lalabas din naman ito sa imbestigasyon," Abante remarked, underscoring the expectation that any unfounded claims would be revealed during the investigation.
