Manila: No untoward incident happened during the three-day nationwide transport strike conducted by transport group Manibela, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday. The transport strike, which started on Tuesday, was generally peaceful as station commanders and chiefs of police in the areas where the activities were held did not record any incident that threatens safety and security of the public, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

According to Philippines News Agency, he lauded the drivers and operators of transport group of Manibela for honoring their commitment to peace and order during the conduct of their protest action. On the other hand, Nartatez said police personnel on the ground did not only monitor the safety and welfare of the public but also the protesters, especially during their movement to some offices of the government agencies.

The protesting drivers and operators were able to meet and hold dialogues with concerned agency officials. Nartatez commended the police personnel on the ground for the successful mission of keeping the transport strike peaceful and orderly.

"The PNP has always recognized the people's right to assemble and air their grievances. We may have differences in opinion and belief but you can be rest assured that your policemen will be there to protect to express those opinion and belief for as long as the safety and security of the people are not compromised," Nartatez said.
