Manila: Malaca±ang on Tuesday downplayed talks of another possible leadership change in the Senate, saying it sees no cause for concern and is confident that the chamber remains stable and focused on serving the public. In a Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said the reported discussions in the Senate are part of democratic processes within the institution.
According to Philippines News Agency, Senate President Tito Sotto assured that the situation in the Senate is stable, and members are merely expressing their views. It is their right to choose who should lead them. Castro stated, "So, may freedom of expression sila, may democracy sila sa loob ng Senado - so, hindi naman po siya alarming (They have freedom of expression and democracy within the Senate - so it's not alarming)."
Castro expressed confidence that regardless of any leadership changes, senators will continue to prioritize measures that benefit the Filipino people. Rumors of another leadership shakeup in the Senate surfaced just weeks after the recent reorganization, which saw new committee heads and a realignment of alliances among senators.
The Palace maintained that it respects the independence of the legislative branch and trusts that lawmakers will continue working closely with the executive to pass measures that advance the administration's development agenda.
