Manila:Malacañang has addressed calls for action against Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan, following his controversial remarks, advising against hasty decisions that could impact Filipinos in China.
According to Philippines News Agency, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro acknowledged the strong reactions from lawmakers and the public, which stemmed from concerns over Philippine sovereignty and national interests. She assured that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains steadfast in safeguarding Philippine territory and maritime rights, especially in the West Philippine Sea.
Castro noted that the Department of Foreign Affairs had already expressed displeasure over the Chinese envoy's statements regarding China's use of force in maritime zones. She mentioned that Senate resolutions urging President Marcos to declare Ambassador Jing persona non grata would not be hindered by the President, though she cautioned against impulsive decisions due to potential repercussions for Filipinos in China.
Castro emphasized that President Marcos is committed to protecting Philippine interests, with ongoing discussions on measures to enhance the country's defense capabilities. She urged the public to stay focused on other pressing issues, such as allegations of Chinese funding for Vice President Sara Duterte, which require further investigation due to potential national security implications.
