Manila: Malaca±ang on Tuesday urged the public to remain vigilant and discerning amid rumors of a destabilization plot against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Speaking to reporters, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said authorities have not monitored any active destabilization efforts against the Marcos administration.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized that there is no current intelligence indicating a plan to destabilize the government. 'Sa ngayon, wala po tayong anumang naririnig na anumang plano na destab laban sa gobyerno (As of now, we have not heard of any destabilization plan against the government),' Castro stated.
Castro pointed out that the public is aware of who the sources of such narratives are and who would benefit from any attempt to unseat the current administration. 'Alam naman natin kung saan nanggagaling iyan at alam naman natin kung sino ang gusto nilang paupuin (We know where these are coming from and we know whom they want to install),' she added.
She urged Filipinos to remain cautious and critical of misinformation and disinformation circulating on social media. 'So, tayo po, mga kababayan natin, sa mga taumbayan, lagi na lamang po tayong magmatyag at maging mapanuri, lalong-lalo na sa mga fake news (To our fellow citizens, let us always remain vigilant and discerning, especially against fake news),' Castro said.
On a related note, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. mentioned on Monday that no destabilization efforts are being monitored within the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, even amid the potential impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. Teodoro reassured the public that the military remains professional and focused on its constitutional duties, despite the political tensions.
