Pangasinan: The Pangasinan police have arrested four violators of the election gun ban since it started Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office information officer Lt. Trisha Mae Guzman, in a statement on Monday, said the violators were a 38-year-old resident of Barangay Agdao in San Carlos City, who yielded a .38 caliber Sunday night; two aged 34 who were arrested during a buy-bust in Barangay Cablong, Pozzorrubio at around 1:20 a.m. Monday; and a 22-year-old resident of Barangay Carmen East, Rosales, involved in a motorcycle traffic accident in Balungao town while with a companion of minor age at around 1:40 am Monday.
The gun-wielding San Carlos resident was intoxicated during an altercation with his wife while the two Pozzorrubio suspects also yielded 2.5 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP17,000.
In Balungao town, police personnel responded to a vehicular traffic incident along the national road in Barangay Aurelio 1st involving a 22-year-old resident of Barangay Carmen East Rosales town, with a minor back rider.
Meanwhile, the rider was arrested after police officers saw a revolver in his sling bag with a defective zipper. A medical examination at Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug found him positive for alcoholic use.
During the election period that will last until June 11, all permits to carry and possess firearms outside residence are canceled, except for those who secured exemptions from the Commission on Elections or government officials with automatic exemptions.
Pangasinan police Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian asked for residents' cooperation when passing through checkpoints. 'Bear with us and be assured that what we do is according to the provisions of the law. We emphasized to the police the need to respect human rights amid the conduct of various operations including checkpoints. This is for the safety and security of the public,' he said in an interview.
