Parts of Albay to Experience 12-Hour Brownout on Jan. 17

Albay: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced a scheduled 12-hour power outage affecting several towns in Albay on Saturday. Joyce Balancio, NGCP's lead specialist for government relations and regional affairs, stated that the interruption will run from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. due to preventive and corrective maintenance on the Tiwi C-Pawa-Tabaco 69 kV transmission line.

According to Philippines News Agency, Balancio mentioned that specific areas affected would be determined by the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco). Anj Galero, Aleco Public Information Officer, confirmed that the outage will impact the entire Tabaco and Malinao substation, affecting towns and cities in Albay's 1st District, including Tiwi, Malinao, Malilipot, and Tabaco City.

Galero also highlighted a separate power interruption for Albay's 3rd District, covering distribution line upgrades from Mahuiton to Jovellar, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The affected barangays include Maguiron, Quitago, Quibongbongan, Iraya, Mapaco, Balolo, Mauraro, Do±a Mercedes, Malipo, Malobago, Sinungtan, Palanas, Ongo, Balite, Pood, Batbat, Cabaloan, Maipon, Masarawag, Maninila, and portions of Poblacion, among others, as well as selected barangays in Camalig and Jovellar.

Residents are reminded to exercise caution, as all power lines will remain energized during the outage.
