Manila: Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in effect over several regions of the Philippines as Tropical Depression (TD) Ada continues to maintain its strength as of Thursday noon. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Ada was last located 420 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. The cyclone is expected to intensify into a tropical storm category within the day.
According to Philippines News Agency, areas currently under TCWS No. 1 include parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In Luzon, Sorsogon, the southeastern portion of Albay, and Catanduanes are affected. In the Visayas, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, and portions of Biliran and Leyte are under the signal. In Mindanao, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur are also impacted.
PAGASA forecasts heavy rainfall in regions such as Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. The administration has also warned of rough seas in various coastal areas, advising mariners of small seacraft, including all types of motorbancas, to avoid venturing out to sea. These areas include the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands, among others.
