Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Angelito Magno as the acting director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Malaca±ang released a copy of Magno's appointment paper, which was signed by Marcos earlier this week. In October, Magno was appointed as the agency's officer in charge following the resignation of former NBI director Jaime Santiago.

According to Philippines News Agency, Magno has dedicated over three decades of service to the NBI, starting his career as a project worker in 1991. Over the years, he advanced through various roles, including special investigator, investigation agent, head agent, regional director, and assistant director. His tenure at the NBI is marked by his involvement in high-profile operations and the arrest of major fugitives. As regional director in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Northern Mindanao, Magno managed extensive jurisdictions across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, taking charge of complex investigations and overseeing large teams.

Magno's leadership in the NBI has seen the agency achieve several significant milestones. These include the interception of PHP3.8 billion worth of illegal drugs in Pampanga, the resolution of the Degamo-Teves murder case, a crackdown on falsified civil registry documents used by foreign syndicates, the dismantling of the Socorro Bayanihan child exploitation network, and the investigation into the M/T Princess Empress oil spill. Additionally, Magno was tasked with overseeing operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, where he addressed issues related to human trafficking, terrorism-related threats, and coordinated with other security agencies.
