PBBM, Carney Hold Tªte- -Tªte, Working Lunch to Advance PH-Canada Ties

Vancouver: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday (Canada time) held a tªte- -tªte and working luncheon as part of efforts to further boost relations between Manila and Ottawa.

According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting at the Vancouver Convention Center marks the start of Marcos' official engagements during his four-day official visit to Canada. Marcos was accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos during the official engagement. Upon his arrival at the convention center, the President received a warm welcome from Carney before the two leaders proceeded to their private meeting.

The tªte- -tªte allowed the two leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual concern and discuss ways to expand cooperation in areas beneficial to both countries. The discussion also served as an opportunity to review the growing partnership between Manila and Ottawa and identify new avenues for collaboration.

Following the private talks, Marcos and Carney attended a working luncheon with members of their respective delegations. The luncheon provided a venue for broader discussions on bilateral relations and shared priorities between the Philippines and Canada. The meeting preceded the formal bilateral talks and the signing of several agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations in key sectors.

Marcos and Carney had their first in-person meeting at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October 2025.
