Pasay city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inspected the preparation of food packs that will be distributed in areas affected by the onslaught of Tropical Storm Crising. Marcos, accompanied by his son William Vincent, visited the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) National Resource Operations Center to check the food packs destined for Crising-hit areas. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian assisted during the inspection.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DSWD has prepositioned over 3 million boxes of family food packs across 935 storage hubs nationwide. The agency currently holds PHP2.9 billion in standby funds and stockpile, which includes more than 3 million family food packs, 28,107 ready-to-eat food boxes, and 334,791 non-food items. The stockpile also comprises PHP773 million worth of non-food items such as hygiene kits, water containers, and other emergency shelter materials for displaced individuals.
President Marcos has directed relevant government agencies to be on alert as the country braces for Crising. The tropical storm slightly intensified while moving west-northwestward towards mainland Cagayan-Babuyan Islands, as per the 11 a.m. bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Crising is moving westward at 25 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was located 195 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, and is forecast to make landfall over mainland Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands on Friday afternoon or evening. The storm is expected to intensify further, reaching the Severe Tropical Storm category by Saturday morning or afternoon.
