Gyeongju: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to be fully prepared for the upcoming Undas to ensure the safety of travelers and the smooth flow of operations nationwide. In a press briefing in Gyeongju, South Korea, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said all concerned agencies have been instructed to prioritize the safety, security, and welfare of travelers returning to their provinces for the observance of All Saints' and All Souls' Days.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized the President's instructions to government agencies to be fully ready for Undas. She mentioned the Department of Social Welfare and Development's readiness to provide assistance, including relief items such as ready-to-eat food packs, family food packs, and other essentials, in case travelers get stranded.
The Department of Health has set up emergency tents along the South Luzon Expressway in anticipation of increased passenger volume. Castro also noted that the Department of Trade and Industry is monitoring commodity prices to ensure Undas-related goods remain reasonably priced.
The Philippine National Police will deploy 31,200 personnel for intensified patrols in residential areas and business establishments to ensure public safety. An additional 11,700 uniformed personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard will also be deployed, supported by around 29,900 force multipliers, including barangay tanods (village police), ranger groups, and non-governmental organization volunteers.
Despite President Marcos attending the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting in South Korea, the safety and security of the public during Undas remain his top priority, Castro said. She added that the government is always prepared for Undas, as it is an annual event.
