Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday pledged that the government would utilize all available resources to ensure every Filipino experiences a 'merry Christmas' this year, despite facing global challenges and adversities impacting the country. During a gift-giving event for residents of Marillac Hills and Haven for Women in Muntinlupa City, President Marcos highlighted the significance of nurturing the Christmas spirit, particularly among children. According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos stressed the importance of ensuring that all Filipinos, especially children, feel the spirit of Christmas, even amidst various adversities such as typhoons and fires that have affected different areas. He assured that the government is committed to making Christmas merry for every Filipino in 2024. During the event, President Marcos distributed gifts and assistance to the residents of these centers, which support victims of abuse and exploitation. He provided 20 sacks of 50-kilo rice to Marillac Hills and 10 sacks to Haven for Women, along with food packs, medicines, vitamins, toiletries, and infant supplies. In appreciation, the residents performed a "thank you" song for the President. Under President Marcos's leadership, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assisted 1,837 children in need of special protection through its service centers and residential care facilities. The department's initiatives have also supported 3,616 children requiring similar protection, and provided various forms of assistance to 939 victims of violence against women. President Marcos also addressed the need for continuous support for disaster-hit Filipinos beyond the Christmas season. During his visit to the Manila Boys Town Complex, he reassured residents of ongoing government support through local government units and the DSWD. He emphasized collaboration with these entities to provide sustained aid to calamity victims, reiterating his wish for a joyful and prosperous Christmas for all Filipinos , particularly those overcoming life's challenges.
